Steve Watson has played varsity lacrosse
as a midfielder at Montgomery High School for four years and
varsity football for three years as a cornerback and wide
receiver. He holds a number of school records in each sport
and has served as captain for both teams his senior year. He
values his role as a mentor for younger players and tries to
help all players have an impact on the field.
Steve has had a varied athletic career
over the years. He’s played cricket, baseball and soccer in
Australia; football, baseball, basketball and lacrosse in
south Florida. Although he was a successful left-handed
pitcher, he put down the bat and glove to take up lacrosse in
the 6th grade and he’s never looked back.
Some of Steve’s football accomplishments
include 3rd team All-State Group III honors as a wide receiver
in 2005, 1st team All-County, and All-Conference, 2nd
team All-Area in both 2005 and 2006. He’s amassed over 1350
receiving yards and scored 11 touchdowns in his career.
In 2005, the Cougar lacrosse team
defeated Pingry for its 1st Somerset County crown,
clinching the Bianchi conference title as well. In 2006, the
Cougars met Ramapo in the Group III State Championship game,
ending the season with a 10-12 loss. Steve earned Honorable
Mention All- State Group B honors and 1st team
All-Bianchi Conference status in 2005. In 2006, he was named
1st team All-Bianchi Conference and 2nd
team All Skyland Conference. He’s led all middies in scoring
each year of his career, contributing 77 goals and 47 assists
thus far to the team’s success.
Steve will continue his lacrosse career
at Rutgers next year. |
